Travel Agent

The apprenticeship of a Travel Agent lasts three years and takes place in professional schools or in travel agencies. Responsibilities depend on the size of the institute and the customer base. In general, Travel Agents give advice on destinations and make arrangements for transportation, hotel accommodations, car rentals, tours, and recreation. They also may advise on weather conditions, restaurants, and tourist attractions. For international travel, an Agent also provides information on customs regulations, requires papers (passports, visas, and certificates of vaccination), and currencies exchange rates. For that and to compute cost of travel and accommodations the Travel Agent uses calculator, computer, carrier tariff books as well as hotel rate books.

After collecting experience an Travel Agent could work in specific functions such as product development or marketing in a managing position. Travel Agents might also work in hotels, airlines, bus agencies or reservation companies.
